Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a protein produced by the liver and yolk sac of a developing fetus. It plays a role in fetal development. It is also expressed in some types of cancer cells, such as Hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), Germ cell tumors (testicular, ovarian), Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Normal AFP levels are generally low in adults. Elevated AFP levels may indicate the presence of cancer, liver diseases or pregnancy. We, Dartmon, provide classic AFP antibody which can be used to diagnostic:

* Liver cancer: AFP is the most widely used tumor marker for liver cancer. Elevated AFP levels can help diagnose liver cancer and monitor its treatment.

* Germ cell tumors: AFP levels can be elevated in testicular and ovarian germ cell tumors.

It should be noted that AFP is not a perfect tumor marker. Some people with cancer may have normal AFP levels, while some people without cancer may have elevated AFP levels, such as pregnancy, hepatitis, and cirrhosis. Additionally, AFP levels can fluctuate over time.
